Swervedriver announce 35th anniversary show for classic debut album ‘Raise’ in London

Swervedriver have announced details of a new live show, celebrating 35 years of their debut album ‘Raise’.

The show comes as a one-off date at the Village Underground venue in London, and will be held on October 24.

At the event, the band will play the hit ‘90s album in its entirety, including ‘Deep Seat’, ‘Pile-Up’ and ‘Son Of Mustang Ford’, as well as other tracks from their vast back catalogue.

The original album was released by the Oxford based indie-psych band via Creation Records in 1991, and followed on from them first making their way into the scene by releasing three EPs. It arrived recorded in London at The Greenhouse and Falconer Studios, produced by the band themselves, and a soon-to-be favourite among fans, with Melody Maker calling it one of the “truly great albums of the year.”

Visit here for tickets to the gig, which go on sale next Friday (February 20) at 10am GMT.

“The thing about ‘Raise’ is it has a really good flow,” explained singer and guitarist Adam Franklin, reflecting on how the band will be playing it in full later this year. “The way the tracks are sequenced, it works perfectly as a live set.

“It comes in strong with ‘Sci-Flyer’, then you’ve got ‘Son Of Mustang Ford’ and ‘Deep Seat’ in there early on and it’s all over in 40 minutes! There’s even a little area before ‘Sandblasted’ that has a great jam that we extend.”

“Then the final song, ‘Lead Me Where You Dare’, we never played that live back in the day, until we decided to do the album in its entirety, and then we had to learn how to play it. It’s definitely a fun album to play from start to finish,” he added.

Swervedriver went on to share three more albums between 1991 and 1998, and then returned in 2015 with the album titled ‘I Wasn’t Born To Lose You’. They then followed that up with their latest record, 2019’s ‘Future Ruins’. The latter was their first under a deal with Mogwai‘s label Rock Action.

According to a press release, fans should keep their eyes peeled for more announcements coming from the group later this year.
