SZA has confirmed that the deluxe version of SOS, long teased with the title Lana, will arrive on Friday. In a new teaser for the album, Ben Stiller lip syncs to one of the new songs. Check it out on her Instagram.
SZA has been trailing the album that may or may not be named Lana (a trailer last week suggested Lana and SOS Deluxe are one and them same) since shortly after the release of SOS in December 2022. The following November, she elaborated to Variety that Lana would be SOS “outtakes and some new songs,” but that it had grown beyond the usual scope of a deluxe edition. “It was gonna be really soft, because I had made all my screaming points,” she said, “and I just wanted to glide and not think [too much] and get out of my own head—I was so happy to say some shit that didn’t mean a fucking thing.” The title refers to a tattoo SZA got years ago when she could only afford to have the second half of her name—Solána—inked.
Soon after the Variety interview, SZA postponed an Apple Music Live show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, saying on social media that the was making “some small last-minute changes to ensure the final product is something I can stand behind and also reflects what you deserve.” Since then, just one song, “Saturn,” has seen the light of day. In the coming months, SZA will hit the road with Kendrick Lamar on a joint tour.
