Tortured Poets has spent eight non-consecutive weeks at Number 1 since its release in May, and has racked up 667,500 chart units to date. It’s both the most-streamed and best-selling album of 2024, with a physical sales total amounting to 265,000.
Noah Kahan’s Stick Season enjoys a place at Number 3 in the year-to-date list, while Billie Eilish lifts one place to Number 4 with her chart topping Hit Me Hard and Soft, which earned Billie the biggest opening week of her career back in May.
Despite being released in 2023, Chappell Roan’s debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess enters the list for the first time at Number 12 after an extraordinary breakthrough summer for Chappell. Currently the biggest debut album of 2024 so far, having seen a monumental rise in streams and sales as the British public discover her music, the Missouri singer continues to dominate the weekly Official Singles Chart too with no less than three of her hits riding high on the current week’s chart. Expect further climbs for Chappell before 2024 is out.
A sweep of big summertime smashes crash straight into the list including reigning singles queen Sabrina Carpenter with her sixth studio album Short ‘n’ Sweet (14), while one of the biggest comebacks in history has helped Oasis’ debut album Definitely Maybe into the Top 20 (18) as the record celebrates its 30th anniversary. Possibly the most talked about album of the summer, BRAT by Charli xcx rounds out the Top 20 (20).
More chart-topping albums released in 2024 to land in the year-to-date list are Ariana Grande’s seventh album Eternal Sunshine at Number 22, Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism at Number 31, and very close behind, Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace) at Number 32.
Finally, as Linkin Park reform with two new band members and brand-new music – their first since the passing of Chester Bennington – their greatest hits collection Papercuts: Singles Collection 2000-2023 enters the list at Number 38 as fans revisit their catalogue.
