Taylor Swift made a rare comment about her breakups from Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy in her docuseries.
During the latest episodes of her series, End of an Era, the Shake It Off singer acknowledged that she went through two breakups during the first leg of The Eras Tour in 2023.
“I went through two breakups in the first half of this tour and that’s a lot of breakups, actually,” Swift said, reports Page Six, adding that the show gave her “purpose” and helped her “get out of bed” amid all the “s**t that was going on”.
“Men will let you down. The Eras Tour never will,” the 36-year-old stated, noting that she wrote her 2024 album, The Tortured Poets Department, about that “rough time” in her life.
The pop superstar dated British actor Alwyn for six years until they broke up in early 2023, after which she had a brief relationship with The 1975 frontman Healy.
Both romances and breakups inspired songs on The Tortured Poets Department, particularly I Can Do It With a Broken Heart, about being able to perform for thousands of people even though she’s heartbroken.
A few months later, Swift began dating American football player Travis Kelce after he revealed on his New Heights podcast that he tried to give her a friendship bracelet with his number on it during an Eras Tour show. They got engaged in August this year.
During the docuseries, Swift’s mother Andrea revealed that she was the one who encouraged her daughter to reach out to the sportsman after reading articles about his comments.
“It was so earnest,” Andrea said about his gesture. “I thought it was the sweetest thing in the world that he came to your show, he brought you something from your world… I liked it.”
The Blank Space singer recalled, “You called me up with this tone of, ‘Hey, so I know you’re not gonna react well to this. But there’s a guy.’ You said something to the effect of, ‘You’ve got to start doing something different.'”
The last two episodes of End of an Era will be released on Disney+ on 23 December.
