Taylor Swift’s ‘August’ removed from Donald Trump TikTok post that joked she would be “super excited” about its use

Taylor Swift‘s song ‘August’ has been removed from a Donald Trump TikTok post that had quipped the artist would be “super excited” about its use.

The ‘Team Trump’ social media account uploaded a video earlier this week (August 3) showing the US President watching a fireworks display with his wife Melania, with Swift’s 2020 song playing in the background.

The post’s caption claimed: “I’m sure Taylor Swift is going to be super excited we used her song!”

Now, though, the song has been removed from the post, with the display reading, “This sound isn’t available”. Variety have noted that an earlier Team Trump video that used Swift’s ‘Father Figure’ has also had its audio made unavailable, while fans have also noticed a third post using ‘Opalite’ has also been removed.

Swift has not commented publicly on the matter.

Swift and Trump have clashed several times in the past, including in 2024, when the President called her “unusually beautiful” and claimed her political views were “just an act”. His Truth Social account later shared AI-generated images falsely suggesting that she had endorsed his presidential campaign, but later denied knowing about the posts.

Swift went on to officially endorse Kamala Harris in that election, which prompted Trump to write, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT”, and suggest that she would “probably pay a price” for the endorsement.

Trump mocked Swift when she was booed at the 2025 Super Bowl, but later congratulated her on her engagement to Travis Kelce, calling her “a terrific person”.

Swift is far from the first artist to take issue with Trump using their music on social media. In June, Ariana Grande criticised the White House after her song ‘Bye’ was used in a video showing ICE agents detaining people, telling the administration not to associate her music with the “barbaric, inhumane” footage.

Kesha also hit out after ‘Blow’ was used in a military video, while Boards Of Canada and Warp Records condemned the unauthorised use of ‘Deep Time’ in a post featuring border patrol boats and detention centres.

Sabrina Carpenter previously described an ICE video featuring ‘Juno’ as “evil and disgusting”, while Olivia Rodrigo accused the administration of using her music to promote “racist, hateful propaganda”.

Other artists and estates to have objected to Trump using their work include The Rolling Stones, Adele, Neil Young, Jack White, ABBA, Céline Dion, Foo Fighters, Isaac Hayes’ estate and Eddy Grant.
