Team Dresch Return With First Album in 30 Years

Team Dresch Return With First Album in 30 Years

Legendary queercore outfit Team Dresch have returned with their first album in three decades. Furthermore arrives September 18 via Jealous Butcher Records. Twylo Landey, the daughter of Team Dresch singer and bassist Jody Bleyle, choreographed and stars in the music video for lead single “One Song,” whose lyrics reference Maurice Sendak’s banned children’s book In the Night Kitchen. Watch it below.

“There are lots of layers to this song,” Team Dresch said in a press statement. “It’s a love song to our young selves from our present selves. It’s a song of hope and power for all the young queers who are dragged into the struggle. It’s also a song for the elders who have built defenses from years of working and caretaking and being pounded by life.”

Bleyle, guitarist/vocalist Kaia Wilson, and guitarist/bassist Donna Dresch formed Team Dresch in Portland, Oregon in 1993. Marcéo Martinez played drums on the band’s 1995 debut, Personal Best, then was replaced by Melissa York for 1996’s Captain My Captain. Both Martinez and York returned to play on Furthermore.

In 2019, Team Dresch reissued Personal Best and Captain My Captain alongside a singles compilation billed as Choices, Chances, Changes: Singles & Comptracks 1994-2000. The following year, they shared “Story of the Earth,” a climate change protest song originally written in 2007. Last year saw Team Dresch play a smattering of shows across the U.S. to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Personal Best.

Revisit the review of Personal Best, Captain My Captain, and Choices, Chances, Changes, named Best New Reissue.
