The Beach Boys have rescheduled their remaining summer tour dates to allow Mike Love, the only original member in the touring band, to rest and “recharge”.

“Playing for you is the highlight of our summer every year — especially as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States while saluting the 60th Anniversary of ‘Pet Sounds’,” a statement shared on Love’s official Instagram page read.
“We’ve been having a blast out there, and to keep the good vibrations going strong, we’ll be taking a short break to recharge before getting back on the road in September… Thanks for your love — we can’t wait to see you back out there for a September to Remember.”
The statement added that all tickets for postponed performances from July 23 through to September 3 would be honoured following their return in late September – and you can visit here for more ticket details.
Love is the only remaining classic-era Beach Boy still touring following the exit of Bruce Johnston earlier this year. As noted by Consequence, some have expressed concern for 85-year-old Love’s health after the band played dates across North America and Europe this year.
After one May 30 concert, a reviewer for Slate said Love’s voice was “reduced to a whisper, all warbled, strange, and barely there”. Days after that review went up, The Beach Boys axed a series of dates due to Love suffering from an unspecified illness. As it stands, The Beach Boys will head back on the road on September 24 in Springfield, Massachusetts, with subsequent stops including Cincinnati, Nashville, Calgary, and Orlando.
In other Beach Boys news, in January, the band shared that they would be releasing their lost experimental album ‘Adult/Child’ after almost 50 years.
Their iconic frontman Brian Wilson died last June, aged 82. In an obituary, NME celebrated the singer as a “culture-defining innovator who represented pop music’s awakening”, adding that his death saw him “leaving behind a legacy of pop symphonies”.
When news of Wilson’s death was shared, Love shared a statement that read: “Our journey together was filled with moments of brilliance, heartbreak, laughter, complexity and most of all, LOVE. Like all families, we had our ups and downs. But through it all, we never stopped loving each other, and I never stopped being in awe of what he could do when he sat at a piano or his spontaneity in the studio.”
He then went on to reveal that he spent time with Wilson before his death, and they got together to sing some of the band’s biggest hits.
