The Cure’s Robert Smith promises tour dates for 2027 “bursting with new songs”

Robert Smith has promised that more tour dates from The Cure are on the way for 2027, and that the setlists will be “bursting with new songs”.

The band have been on the road throughout the summer, celebrating their latest album ‘Songs of a Lost World’ and recently wrapping up their European and UK festival tour, which included a huge show at Manchester’s Wythenshawe Park plus  Isle Of Wight, Primavera Sound Barcelona and Rock en Seine.

Now, the frontman has shared some good news with Nick Grimshaw’s BBC Radio 6 show, teasing that there are still more announcements set for 2027, including more shows and some new material.

Smith shared the message to acknowledging the band’s making the 6Music 2026 Artist of the Year shortlist, and shared that he will be adding it “to my personal music highlight list of 2026 so far”, alongside curating the Teenage Cancer Trust shows at Royal Albert Hall, joining Olivia Rodrigo for the live premiere of her song ‘What’s Wrong With Me’, and more.

“The Cure’s last show of summer at the Rock En Seine show in Paris” also made the list, as did “pretty much every one of The Cure shows that happened in between.”

“I’m looking forward to more Cure concerts in 2027,” Smith concluded. “Of course, I’m not allowed to say where or when yet, but I’m confident they will be bursting with new songs. Watch this space…”

The band have been teasing another new album for a while now. As far back as 2020, Smith told NME that fans should await “two new albums and an album of noise”. Later after the release of ‘Songs Of A Lost World’, he shared that another new album was “virtually finished”, as well as a third new record also on the way.

They later revealed recorded 13 new songs for the first of two LPs at the legendary Rockfield Studios back in March 2025, but no material from that album has been aired live yet.

Smith also said that he could imagine the celebrations continuing all the way up until the band hits their 50th anniversary in 2028, and then confirmed earlier this summer that the two albums they were working on are “done”, with the first set to be more broody, and the second set to be more “poppy”.

The first upcoming record, he explained, will be “more dismal than ‘Songs Of A Lost World’”.

“I mean dismal is a horrible word to use, but it’s quite dark, it’s related to ‘Songs Of A Lost World’, but it’s a different perspective on things,” he added. As for the second upcoming album, he said it will be “weird” and more upbeat than some fans may expect.

“People think, ‘Ah, it’s because he’s been working with Olivia, because the third one is actually really upbeat’. [And] It’s really poppy, but it doesn’t compare melodically to the stuff that Olivia does, but it’s my idea of Cure Pop,” he continued. “It’s probably 20 BPM slower than anything she does, but [compared to] what we’ve done in last couple of years, it’s really rocking. It’s banging.”

In a five-star review of ‘Songs Of A Lost World’, NME wrote: “Merciless? Yes, but there’s always enough heart in the darkness and opulence in the sound to hold you and place these songs alongside The Cure’s finest. The frontman suggested that another two records may be arriving at some point, but ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ feels sufficient enough for the wait we’ve endured, just for being arguably the most personal album of Smith’s career. Mortality may loom, but there’s colour in the black and flowers on the grave.”
