The Edge’s famous mirror-tiled Les Paul heads to auction at $75,000

The Edge’s famous mirror-tiled Les Paul heads to auction at ,000

Gotta Have Rock and Roll is offering one of the most visually striking instruments of U2’s experimental era: a custom mirror-tiled Gibson Les Paul owned and stage-used by The Edge, featured in the band’s 1997 “Discotheque” music video and on the artwork for the landmark album “Pop.” The guitar is currently up for auction here with a $75,000 current bid, and projected to sell for $150,000 plus.

Wrapped in a reflective mirror-tiled finish that became a signature image of the era, the guitar was played by The Edge during one of U2’s boldest creative reinventions. After its time on stage and screen, the instrument was signed on the back by all four members of the band and auctioned for charity in 1999.

Released in 1997, “Discotheque” and “Pop” pushed U2 into dance and electronic territory, a deliberate break from the sound that had defined the group in the previous decade. The album reached number one in more than 25 countries, and the accompanying PopMart tour ranked among the highest-grossing of the year. This guitar sits at the center of that reinvention, both as a working instrument and as a piece of the visual identity that fans still associate with the period.
The guitar shows honest signs of its stage and studio life. The mirror-tiled surface and the band signatures are well preserved, and the instrument retains its custom design features throughout.

Estimate: $100,000 to $150,000
“Instruments like this one are rare because they carry the whole story at once, the music, the video, the album cover, and the signatures of the entire band. It is the visual signature of U2’s most daring period, and it is the kind of piece that defines a sale,” said Dylan Kosinski, CEO, Gotta Have Rock and Roll.

Up for auction now until July 17th here!
