The Flaming Lips‘ Steven Drozd has said he is no longer a member of the band.
The multi-instrumentalist and chief songwriter seemingly announced his departure in a since-deleted reply to a fan on Threads (via Reddit), according to Consequence.
Asked if he was “officially done with the FLips,” Drozd replied: “They’re done with me – but we’re not talking about it. So yes I’m moving on. Just keep it to yourself for now. OK?”
NME has contacted a spokesperson for the band and label for comment.
Drozd has been a member of The Flaming Lips since 1991 but he has been absent from the band’s tour in recent months, with AJ Slaughter stepping in.
Meanwhile, the band were recently confirmed to make an appearance at next year’s Latitude Festival alongside Lewis Capaldi, Teddy Swims and David Byrne.
The event is set to take place at Henham Park in Suffolk between July 23 -26. Any remaining tickets are available to buy here.
Other acts on the bill include The Last Dinner Party, Self Esteem, Tom Grennan, Wet Leg, Alex James‘ Britpop Classical, Alice Phoebe Lou, Billy Ocean, Dry Cleaning, English Teacher, Kevin Morby, Vanessa Carlton, Florence Road, Getdown Services, Just Mustard, Keo, and Westside Cowboy, with more names set to be announced.
Last year’s instalment saw Sting, Snow Patrol and Fatboy Slim headline, with Basement Jaxx, Elbow, Maribou State, Sigrid and Clean Bandit performing.
Elsewhere, The Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock also recently paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne with a cover of Black Sabbath’s ‘War Pigs’ during their joint-headline tour at the Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta.
Several other artists have also performed live covers of Osbourne and Sabbath songs since his passing – Cage The Elephant played ‘Changes’ at Lollapalooza, Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp covered ‘Paranoid’ in London’s O2 Arena, Geordie Greep played a Sabbath medley in Birmingham, Wolfgang Van Halen played ‘Mama I’m Coming Home’, while both Coldplay and Yungblud covered ‘Changes’.
