The Molotovs share song “to all you hateful bastards” with “pretty angry” new single ‘Get A Life’

The Molotovs have released an intense new single called ‘Get A Life’, which they say is for all of the “hateful bastards”.

The track marks the latest preview of the band’s forthcoming album ‘Wasted On Youth’, and serves as the opening track that sets the mood for the punk-focused record.

Coming in at just under two minutes long, the song is an immense hit of energy from start to finish, and sees the teenage siblings, Matt and Issey Cartlidge, capture the perfect blend of punk and indie influences that first put them on the map.

“Are you ready / For me to take you somewhere?/ Do I frustrate you/ Like chewing gum stuck in your hair?” the lyrics belt, backed by intense, fast-paced guitar riffs and a racing drum beat.

The band have also already previewed the song at various live shows lately, and now given the official release, they quipped online that it was a track written to appeal to “all you hateful bastards” out there.

“‘Get A Life’ is one of those tracks where as soon as the opening riffs come in, the whole room goes mad,” explained Matt. “It’s a punk song. We love Buzzcocks, Libertines, The Horrors, The Jam, the Pistols – we love The Undertones. It’s a pretty angry song, pretty pointed, and I can’t possibly tell you who it’s directed at!”

The song follows on from the teenage siblings playing more than 600 shows over the years and locking in support slots for the likes of huge names including Sex Pistols feat Frank Carter, Blondie, The Libertines, Iggy Pop, and The Damned.

It also comes on the heels of them achieving numerous Top 10 slots with singles including ‘More More More’, ‘Today’s Gonna Be Our Day’ and ‘Rhythm Of Yourself’, and alongside them helping to save the historic Bush Hall venue in West London.

“Bush Hall is very important to us and we were proud to play a show 2024 – with a surprise appearance from Sex Pistol Paul Cook – that capped off the campaign to save it,” said Issey.

“But so many other vital venues are struggling to stay afloat. The UK has a long history of producing some of the greatest rock acts in the world but without the right places to play, those artists will struggle to grow and break through.”

Tomorrow (Tuesday January 6), the band kick off a UK headline ‘Wasted On Youth’ tour with an opening night in Glasgow. Then, throughout the rest of the month they will make stops in Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and more.

After a stop at Banquet Records At Kingston College and Resident Music in Brighton at the end of the month, shows continue into February with further appearances in London, Liverpool and Cardiff.

In the run up to their album release, last month The Molotovs shut down ‘Oasis Street’ in Soho with a Christmas guerrilla gig in aid of The Big Issue.

Speaking on the campaign, Matt said: “One of the tragedies of the struggles facing society today is that so many people get left behind. The Big Issue does an amazing job at helping people but it’s down to the rest of us to make sure vendors, just like everyone else, are true parts of the community.”

After their headline tour, the band will support Yungblud on his UK and Ireland arena tour next spring and play The Great Escape Festival alongside NME 100 2025 alumni Maruja, Nia Smith and Ugly.
