The Weeknd Enlists Gaspar Noé and His Blinding Lights for Surreal ‘Big Sleep’ Music Video

The Weeknd has enlisted filmmaker Gaspar Noé to direct the new music video for his Hurry Up Tomorrow collaboration with Giorgio Moroder, “Big Sleep.”

The video prominently features Noé’s signature strobe effects and begins with a warning for photosensitive viewers. And though the visuals start calmly enough, with an old man puttering through a deserted city, the flashing blue, green, and red lights inject a jolt of madness that’s pushed into the surreal as the man confronts giant statue heads of the Weeknd and Moroder floating above the city.

The Weeknd released Hurry Up Tomorrow back in January, with the album completing the trilogy that began with 2020’s After Hours and 2022’s Dawn FM. Along with Moroder, Hurry Up Tomorrow featured collaborations with Playboi Carti, Justice, Anitta, Travis Scott, Florence and the Machine, Future, and Lana Del Rey.

Hurry Up Tomorrow was also accompanied by a feature film of the same name. It starred the Weeknd (under his real name, Abel Tesfaye) alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.

Ahead of the arrival of Hurry Up Tomorrow, Tesfaye revealed that this would be his last album under the Weeknd moniker. Speaking with Variety, he explained, “It’s a headspace I’ve gotta get into that I just don’t have any more desire for. You have a persona, but then you have the competition of it all. It becomes this rat race: more accolades, more success, more shows, more albums, more awards, and more Number Ones. It never ends until you end it.”

For now, though, Tesfaye still has a bit more work to do as the Weeknd. After wrapping the North American leg of his Hurry Up Tomorrow tour last month, he’s set to return to the road in 2026 for an extensive run through the spring and summer that’ll include shows in Mexico, South America, and Europe.
