Maren Morris and Miranda Lambert apparently had such a good time at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding that they left with the wrong shoes.
While appearing on Amazon Music’s Country Heat Weekly podcast to reflect on the 10th anniversary of her debut album Hero, Morris shared a funny behind-the-scenes story from the couple’s July 3 wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
According to Morris, she and Lambert accidentally swapped their black heels after taking their shoes off during the celebration — despite the fact that they wear completely different sizes.
“It took a couple days to realize that Miranda Lambert and I accidentally took each other’s shoes home,” Morris recalled. The “My Church” singer said she initially had no idea where the mystery pair had come from but still wore them when it was time to leave. “I can’t walk out of this wedding barefoot,” she joked.
The mix-up was eventually solved when Lambert’s stylist discovered that the country star had ended up with a pair of size 6 shoes that didn’t belong to her. Morris quickly realized what had happened and reached out to Lambert, joking that the accidental exchange had to be evidence of a memorable night.
Morris compared the situation to a “Cinderella moment,” while also offering one lesson from the experience: “Don’t take your shoes off at a wedding. You need to commit to the bit.” The two Texas-born, Grammy-winning, Hot Country Songs chart-topping stars eventually got their respective heels back.
Morris attended Swift and Kelce’s wedding alongside several fellow country artists, including Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini and members of Little Big Town. She also reunited with other familiar faces from the Nashville music community throughout the evening, including Eric Church and Kane Brown.
Before arriving at the venue, Morris and her fellow wedding guests turned their ride into a mini singalong, with the singer taking control of the aux and playing Swift’s “Love Story.”
As for the shoe swap? Morris said Lambert took the entire ordeal in stride — and considering both women eventually got their heels back, it seems the only lingering damage might have been to their feet after a long night of celebrating.
