HarbourView Equity Partners has signed a partnership deal with Grammy-nominated producer David Kershenbaum, through which the company acquired his interest in producer royalties and related rights across master recordings including hits such as Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” Joe Jackson’s “Steppin’ Out” and Marc Cohn’s “Walking in Memphis.”

The deal additionally includes tracks such as Chapman’s “Baby Can I Hold You,” “Talking’ Bout a Revolution,” “She’s Got Her Ticket” and “Crossroads”; Jackson’s “Is She Really Going Out With Him” and “Breaking Us in Two”; and Gallagher & Lyle’s “I Wanna Stay With You.” Notably, Chapman’s “Fast Car” received a renewed burst of attention in 2023 after Luke Combs’ cover of the song reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The two performed the song together at the Grammys the following year.

Over a career spanning five decades, Kershenbaum has also worked with artists including Bryan Adams, Duran Duran and Elkie Brooks. He’s been nominated for a total of four Grammys, including producer of the year.

“David Kershenbaum’s career as an American music producer includes collaborations with artists including Duran Duran, Tracy Chapman and Joe Jackson, and recognition through more than 75 international awards and Grammys nominations,” said Sherrese Clarke, founder and CEO of HarbourView Equity Partners, in a statement on the deal. “His body of work spans a wide range of artists and recordings that have reached audiences across genres. We’re excited to welcome David to the HarbourView family and to steward this catalog and the creative work it represents.”

“Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with incredibly talented artists to create music that has connected with listeners around the world,” added Kershenbaum. “HarbourView shares my appreciation for great songs and the creators behind them, and I’m excited to partner with a team that understands this body of work.”

Fox Rothschild, LLP served as legal counsel to HarbourView in the transaction.

According to a press release, HarbourView has acquired more than 70 music catalogs and has approximately $3.88 billion in regulatory assets under management.
