Travis Scott says Oasis helped inspire his next album

Travis Scott has said his upcoming album was partially inspired by Oasis.

The Houston rapper gave an update on new music to Variety, where he spoke about the follow-up to his 2023 album ‘Utopia‘.

“I’m working on an album right now, and that’s fucking amazing,” he told the outlet. “And I’m constantly pushing myself to push the sonics to try to make something that I haven’t made before.”

Though he was tight-lipped about his next record’s specific sound, he did cite a number of diverse influences on the album, including Oasis, Parliament, Don Toliver, Raphael Saadiq, and Daft Punk. He also said Van Halen was a reference point for their “mega-choruses and hard bass lines”.

Scott went on to explain that his touring experiences have informed the album, too. “I need to double down on trying to make something that can reach the person that’s all the way back in the bowl, so how do I reach them like the person that’s right next to me,” he told Variety. “So that’s what I’m on — trying to elevate the show to a more theater aspect.”
He added: “‘Utopia’ was supposed to be a play. I want to try to bring back true experiences before they try to take them all down and make everything digital.”

In 2023, we reviewed ‘Utopia’, giving it a three-star review. “Whereas ‘Astroworld’ was the perfect theme for Scott’s music – we’re going to a theme park! – in trying to navigate a lofty concept like finding utopia, his ambitions have led him back to someone who was far more formidable at it,” we wrote.

Recently, Scott appeared as an actor in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. In the film, Scott makes a cameo as a bard recounting part of the Trojan War.

Nolan has opened up on Scott’s casting, explaining: “I wanted to nod towards the idea that this story has been handed down as oral poetry, which is analogous to rap.”

Scott has previously worked with Nolan before, recording the track ‘The Plan’ for 2020 film Tenet.

He also contributed end-credits song ‘When I’m Home’ for The Odyssey in collaboration with James Blake and Ludwig Göransson.

Elsewhere, Tay Keith, producer of Travis Scott’s ‘Sicko Mode’, has been found dead aged 29.
