Travis Scott has revealed his new album was inspired by Oasis and Van Halen.
The music star has been busy working on the follow-up to Utopia, which achieved double platinum status and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
In a new interview with Variety, Scott – who was wearing a faded Oasis T-shirt – teased a range of genres from Britpop to hard rock have influenced his latest material.
While the 35-year-old star was reluctant to reveal much about the new sound, he did tell Variety he’s been listening to Parliament, Oasis, Daft Punk, Don Toliver and Van Halen for their “mega-choruses and hard bass lines”.
Scott has been carrying tracks for the new album around on his iPod, which fans spotted attached to his waistband as he attended a FIFA World Cup match in Houston with Stormi and Aire, his children with ex-Kylie Jenner.
While discussing the record, Scott shared how he felt inspired to move all his fans – especially the ones in the back row of his sell-out shows.
“I’m like, OK, I need to double down on trying to make something that can reach the person that’s all the way back in the bowl,” he explained.
“So how do I reach them like the person that’s right next to me. So that’s what I’m on – trying to elevate the show to a more theatre aspect.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Scott reflected on landing a series of Grammy Award nominations but failing to win one so far.
While the star insisted awards aren’t the reason he makes music, he admitted it would be nice to add to his trophy cabinet.
“I like to set goals, and I just want to achieve them,” Scott shared.
“I noticed the people that get them always have that like, ‘It doesn’t matter’ (attitude). To me, the award represents something, and to achieve that would be amazing.”
After recording the end credits song for The Odyssey as well as making an appearance in the new blockbuster, Scott has set his sights on more acting work and accolades in his future.
“I still need a Grammy, but I would love to take home an Oscar. That’d be cool,” he replied when quizzed upon the prospect of his song When I’m Home being nominated for an Academy Award.
“I would love to act more. I respect the true talents of the people that wake up every day and really grind.”
