Trent Reznor has clarified that Nine Inch Nails are not “stopping” touring.

The industrial rockers wrapped their Peel It Back tour in Sacramento on March 16, and at an earlier show, the 60-year-old frontman suggested he has no idea if the group will hit the road again.

Speaking on stage at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on February 27, he recalled: “One of the first times we played here, maybe it was Cain’s Ballroom, like 80 years ago… we were playing Head Like a Hole, and I could see someone in the back screaming the f*****’ lyrics back at me, and I thought, ‘This is all I ever wanted in life, is to connect with somebody like that dude’. Anyway, that’s what I think of when I roll into Tulsa.”

Trent then said: “I don’t know if we’re gonna be touring anymore after this, but I’m proud of the show that we’re doing right now. And I’m f****** grateful that you’ve chosen to spend your evening with us tonight.”

However, speaking in Sacramento, he said his words were “misconstrued,” and there is every chance they will tour again.

He told the audience at Golden 1 Center: “As some of you may know, this is the last show of the tour.

“And to be clear, I think I said something the other day that then got misconstrued into something that is not intentionally necessarily true.

“What I said was, this is the last show of this tour and we don’t have any shows booked and we don’t have any plans to book any shows any time in the future so far. That doesn’t mean we may not tour again.”

He went on: “It won’t be next month, it won’t be this year. I never said we were intentionally stopping and I never meant that. But, to be truthful, we didn’t tour for a while before this tour because, frankly, I didn’t know if we could do it well and if it still mattered and if we really feel like we had something to say.

“And the combination of this band and this crew and a lot of hard work and we put on a show that I’m really f***ing proud of. I thank you for coming and attending. I appreciate it. It makes us all feel like we have a f***ing purpose.”

Next, the band will bring Nine Inch Noize – a supergroup with Boys Noize – to Coachella on April 10 and 17.

At the end of last year, Trent revealed that NIN were working on new music after being disillusioned by the music industry.

He explained that the Peel It Back tour and working on the TRON: Ares soundtrack inspired their return to the studio.

Speaking as part of Consequence’s 2025 Live Act of the Year honour, he spilled: “We are working on new stuff and we’re excited to work on it, and we are prioritising working on Nine Inch Nails over just taking on every single thing that comes up in the other category.

“So, beyond that, I can’t say much, but the difference between now and a year ago is the fuse has been lit and the desire is there.”

The year prior, Trent told IndieWire that he had focused on creating film scores in recent years because “the music world sucks.”

Nine Inch Nails’ last studio album that wasn’t a soundtrack was 2020’s Ghosts V: Together and its counterpart Ghosts VI: Locusts.
