TRNSMT change set times to show Scotland World Cup match

TRNSMT have adjusted set times at this year’s festival to be able show Scotland playing in the World Cup.

The nation has reached the World Cup for the first time in 28 years, and will be playing against Morocco on Friday June 19.

Organisers of Glasgow’s TRNSMT have now adjusted the performance schedule for the festival on that day, meaning that fans can stay behind to watch the match kick-off at 11pm.

On the night, former Verve frontman turned solo star Richard Ashcroft is set to headline. Usually, the headline set takes place from roughly 9.30pm until 11pm, however to avoid a clash with the World Cup, Ashcroft will be starting his performance earlier, and finishing with plenty of time before the game starts.

Fans attending the festival on the night will be allowed to stay behind to watch the game from Glasgow Green, which will be broadcast live on what the organisers describe as the “largest screens in the country”.

“This is going to be a historic moment for the festival and one we are incredibly excited about,” said Geoff Ellis, chief executive of DF Concerts (via BBC News). “It’s sure to be a night that will live long in the memory.”

“I couldn’t think of a better addition to the Main Stage line-up than the Scotland national team, and showing the game will create a unique atmosphere, bringing the Hampden roar to Glasgow Green,” he added. “Giving our fans the chance to see their favourite bands and then watch the game with thousands of Scotland fans in a World Cup is the stuff dreams are made of, and it shows exactly how TRNSMT is much more than a music festival.”

This year’s TRNSMT will run between Friday June 19 and Sunday June 21, and joining Ashcroft will be the likes Kasabian, Lewis Capaldi, and Wolf Alice.

The appearance from the former Verve frontman comes following him winning over a new generation of fans with his opening slots on the Oasis ‘Live ‘25’ tour last summer, and going on to release the new solo album, ‘Lovin’ You’.

The Friday line-up also includes appearances from NewDad, who are returning to the festival following their 2024 debut, as well as Liverpool singer-songwriter Luvcat, Reading rapper Songer, and rising pop group Cliffords. Visit here for tickets and more information.

Organisers hinted last year that they may be adjusting set times in 2026 to accommodate for the World Cup, with Ellis previously telling the BBC: “Obviously it’s very early days as the World Cup and TRNSMT are still over six months away. As you would expect there is flexibility in timings and we will be ensuring that music fans can enjoy the TRNSMT line up as well as watching Scotland’s second game on the road to bringing the World Cup home to the birthplace of football.”
