Tyla+ features three new tracks, including “Shake Ah,” “Push 2 Start,” and “Back to You”
Amapiano queen Tyla has released Tyla+, the deluxe edition of her self-titled debut album, adding three new songs: the log drum-driven track “Shake Ah,” featuring Tony Duardo, Optimist, and Ez Maestro; the reggae-fused tune “Push 2 Start;” and slowed-down serenade “Back to You.”
Her 14-track album Tyla, released in March, featured the breakthrough track “Water,” which helped the 22-year-old Johannesburg native rocketed to stardom. The original LP also included “Intro” featuring Kelvin Momo, “No.1” featuring Tems, “Jump” featuring Gunna and Skillibeng, and “On My Body” featuring Becky G. With the success of “Water,” Tyla earned the inaugural Grammy for Best African Music Performance in February. Last month, she also picked up another accolade for Best Afrobeats Video at the MTV Video Music Awards for the same single.
Tyla told Rolling Stone in March that she named her first album after herself so that new listeners have a “plain and simple” introduction to her style. “I really wanted to give a statement because I think that shows confidence, and I’m just ready,” Tyla said. “I’ve been working on this for so long. And even though people think I just [arrived] a few weeks ago, I’ve literally been working for very long on this. Self-titled was the only way for my first album.”
The amapiano artist is set to headline the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, the intimates brand announced last month. After a brief hiatus, the fashion show will premiere Oct. 15 with the likes of Tyra Banks, Gigi Hadid, Paloma Elsesser strutting the catwalk. The brand released a one-time special on Prime Video with Doja Cat as its musical guest September 2023.
