On October 6, Tyler performed at the Austin City Limits festival, where he performed his 2017 track, ‘911’. While performing the song, Tyler edited a lyric in the song to take a jab at Tesla founder Elon Musk.
In the clip below, you can watch Tyler, The Creator rap “Sucks you can’t gas me up / Man fuck Elon!”.

The lyric change comes after the rapper – who was a fan of Tesla’s electric cars – originally rapped in the 2017 song “Sucks you can’t gas me up / Shout out to Elon.” In 2015, Tyler openly spoke of his admiration of Tesla and Musk, and in 2016 tweeted “Shout out Elon Musk”, to which Musk replied with a simple “Thanks Tyler”.
Thanks Tyler

However, a lot has changed since 2017. In the years that followed, Elon Musk has purchased Twitter and rebranded it as X, is now a vocal Donald Trump supporter, has become an advocate for “free speech” which includes his spreading of misinformation and sharing creepy posts directed at Taylor Swift among others.
Prior to Austin City Limits, Tyler last performed at Coachella 2024. In a four-star review of Tyler, The Creator’s 2024 Coachella headline set, NME shared: “It’s a reflection of the rapper’s cult icon status and a rebuttal to those in his life who didn’t believe in him. “I told n****s I’m gonna have my Coachella one day, and they said, ‘Nope’ – they can all suck this dick right now,” he shares. After tonight, it feels unlikely that anyone will doubt him again.”
