Watch Foo Fighters endure spicy wings and reveal “cringiest lyrics” on ‘Hot Ones Versus’

Foo Fighters have appeared on Hot Ones Versus, where they shared embarrassing anecdotes and answered some awkward questions. Check out the episode below.

The appearance on the hit series comes following the rock icons recently releasing new album ‘Your Favorite Toy’, which arrived on April 24 and featured previously-released singles ‘Caught In The Echo’, ‘Asking For A Friend’, ‘Of All People’, and the title track.

Taking part in the online show – which is a spin-off from the original Hot Ones interview series – the six bandmates sat around a table together and asked one another increasingly difficult questions. The challenge was to answer a question honestly, or forfeit and have to eat a very spicy wing instead.

During the episode, Chris Shiflett was challenged to rank his bandmates previous groups – giving Rami Jaffee’s The Wallflowers the top spot, and Nate Mendel’s Sunny Day Real Estate fourth place – and drummer Ilan Rubin refused to pitch a new band name to frontman Dave Grohl, meaning he had to eat one of the hot wings.

It was Grohl who shared the most anecdotes during the episode though, and revealed that he once suffered a bad case of diarrhoea before a show after drinking tap water in Slovenia, and admitted that he thought his “cringiest lyrics” were in the 2005 song ‘D.O.A’.

At another point in the show, the frontman confirmed that he once wrote a full rap song for Foo Fighters, which is called ‘That Ass’, but added that he refuses to release it.

He also revealed that David Bowie once told him in an email to “fuck off”. The message, he said, came after he reached out to the iconic singer to ask if he wanted to take part in a film soundtrack, to which Bowie turned the offer down. When Grohl then wrote back thanking him for his time and for letting him know, the Starman replied: “Well, that’s settled then. Now fuck off.”

While it was the band’s first time taking part in the Versus spinoff, Grohl has been on the series before, and took part in the original show with host Sean Evans in 2022.

NME awarded ‘Your Favorite Toy’ three-and-a-half stars, writing: “Vocally, Grohl has rediscovered his roar, but lyricism has never been his strongest suit, and much of it here is throwaway; those looking for signs of where his head is at after his infidelity scandal two years ago will be largely disappointed.

“‘Your Favorite Toy’ is a few more tracks of that depth away from being the most vital Foo Fighters record since 1997’s ‘The Colour and the Shape’. For now, at least, they have remembered that no-frills punk, played fast and loud, suits them much better than middle-of-the-road dad-rock.”

Since it dropped, the band have revealed that they were forced to rename their latest album because of Wicked: For Good, appeared on Track Star and The Late Show, and have taken part in their first ever Tiny Desk Concert.

They will be playing a European stadium tour that is set to include two nights at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium at the end of June. They will also be playing a range of major European shows, a North American stadium tour, and have announced an Australian and New Zealand tour for late 2026 and early 2027.
