Watch Jack White bring out The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson to cover Free’s ‘I’m A Mover’

Jack White brought out The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson to cover Free’s ‘I’m A Mover’ in Chicago this week – watch footage below.

White performed at Radius on Thursday night (July 23), where Robinson made a surprise appearance midway through the set to take lead vocals on the 1969 blues-rock track.

With Robinson handling vocal duties, White was able to focus on guitar as the pair delivered a raw, high-energy rendition of the song alongside his touring band.

It was the first time that either musician has publicly played the song, and it came on the latest date of White’s current North American tour, in support of his seventh solo record, ‘Frozen Charlotte‘, which was released earlier this month.

Watch footage from the performance here:

‘I’m A Mover’ originally appeared on Free’s debut album, ‘Tons Of Sobs‘, which was released in 1969. The band featured vocalist Paul Rodgers and guitarist Paul Kossoff, and would later find widespread success with their 1970 single ‘All Right Now’.

Elsewhere during the show, White continued the blues-heavy theme by covering Robert Johnson’s ‘Phonograph Blues’. The set also featured White Stripes favourites ‘Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground’, ‘Icky Thump’ and ‘Seven Nation Army’, alongside material from ‘Frozen Charlotte’.

The guest appearance came after White brought out his daughter Scarlett during the opening weekend of his North American tour in Brooklyn.

The 19-year-old played bass on ‘Cannon’, ‘John The Revelator’ and ‘Black Math’ at Brooklyn Paramount, following on from previous collaborations at New York’s Irving Plaza in 2025 and Third Man Records’ Blue Room in Nashville in 2023.

White released ‘Frozen Charlotte’ on July 10 via Third Man, marking his fourth studio album in five years following 2022’s ‘Fear Of The Dawn’ and ‘Entering Heaven Alive’, and 2024’s ‘No Name’.

His current tour continues with a hometown-area show at Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan tonight (July 25), before heading to the UK and Ireland next month.

White will play two nights at London’s Eventim Apollo on August 25 and 26, followed by dates in Bristol, Newcastle and Belfast and two shows at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre. Further North American concerts are scheduled throughout September, October and November. Find any remaining tickets here.

In NME’s three-and-a-half-star review of ‘Frozen Charlotte’, Andrew Trendell wrote that “it may not rank among his classic work but it’s good fun,” adding: “It’s gonna really be something live, and it works to show that White doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel when he can give you one hell of a ride on his own.”
