Watch Jason Momoa cover Oasis at surprise Manchester gig

Jason Momoa has covered Oasis live at a surprise gig in Manchester. Check out the footage below.

The Aquaman and Game Of Thrones star was spotted in various places around the UK city over the weekend, when he flew over to celebrate his new premium spirits range, Meili Vodka, launching on this side of the pond.

After being spotted by fans at Old Trafford – celebrating as Manchester United secured a 3-2 victory over Fulham – Momoa also made stops at local venues including the acclaimed Fenix restaurant, the Chinese restaurant Tattu, and The Blues Kitchen on Quay Street.

One of the most memorable visits, however, was when he went to the Louis venue at Hardman Square, and took to the stage with his band ÖOF TATATÁ for an intense performance full of covers.

Joined by bandmates Mike Hayes and Kenny Dale, Momoa took on bass duties and performed covers of songs by huge names in rock, including Metallica, Jimi Hendrix, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was when the band broke out an unexpected cover of one of Manchester’s own, though, that really got fans talking.

Introducing it as a “song from Manchester”, Momoa and co. put their own spin on Oasis’ ‘Fuckin’ In The Bushes’, and quipped to the audience that “if it sucks” it was because they “learned it right now”.

Unsurprisingly, the appearance from the A Minecraft Movie star was quick to get people talking online, and fans seemed to give the cover their seal of approval.

“Call me the ending of Raiders of the Lost Ark cos my face has melted clean off,” one joked on Reddit after seeing the cover, while another agreed and called it the “most random brilliant thing I’ve seen on the internet today”.

“It’s wild that Oasis is getting the recognition they deserved in the States so late in the game. Has any UK band ever had a late-career breakthrough like this,” another wrote, adding: “I mean, they were still pretty big in the US back in the 90s, but they seem even bigger now.”

Others joked about how Momoa performed the Oasis song while wearing a Manchester United jersey – which is the rival team of Manchester City, which Liam and Noel Gallagher have supported for years. “Don’t let Liam and Noel see this,” one person quipped.

Momoa is a huge rock and metal fan, and has frequently shared his love for groups including Black Sabbath and Guns N’ Roses over the years, as well as being spotted at countless concerts.

In 2023, he went viral after clips of him starting a mosh pit at a Metallica and Pantera concert surfaced.

Before then, he credited a Tool song with igniting his love of playing the bass guitar, and was given a bass lesson by Primus’ Les Claypool.

Prior to that, he posted a video of himself jamming to Red Hot Chili Peppers’ cover of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Higher Ground’ on Instagram. In the clip, he showed off a Fender Precision Bass that he’d been gifted for his 41st birthday.

Last summer, Black Sabbath played their final ever show, ‘Back To The Beginning’, in their Birmingham hometown. That event saw Ozzy Osbourne and co. play live together for the first time in two decades, and also featured Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Lamb Of God, Mastodon, Alice In Chains, Halestorm, Gojira and more.

Momoa was enlisted to host the star-studded event, and later told NME that he said yes to the opportunity as he was convinced it would be “the greatest show on Earth”.

Speaking about Black Sabbath in the interview, he said that their self-titled album “just introduced me to everything”.

“There are just so many [good songs] that it blows your mind. And then they came out with ‘Paranoid’ [six months later],” he added. “One year, two masterpieces. I’m a creature of habit. I still listen to all those songs every day.”
