Watch Limp Bizkit pay tribute to late bassist Sam Rivers in first concert since passing

Limp Bizkit have paid tribute to their late bassist Sam Rivers at their first show since his passing – watch footage below.

On Saturday night (November 29), the band played at Mexico City’s Estadio Fray Nano, their first return to the stage since it was announced on October 18 that Rivers had died at the age of 48.

An emotional video tribute played for the live crowd during the set that the members of the group watched from the stage. As the words “Sam Rivers, our brother forever” and “Sam Rivers, we love you forever” brought the clip to an end, the band embraced each other.

Earlier in the day, drummer John Otto had shared a personal statement on Instagram, writing: “Today is going to be tough. A first I never wanted to experience. Especially not now. You’ve been there for so many major firsts in my life. Some of my earliest memories were made with you. We grew up together. Laughed together. Realized our dreams together. And traveled the world together.”

He continued: “You’ve always been there. The godfather to my girls, my best friend – my brother. There will never be another you. We’re going to honor the life you lived and the love you spread with every show we play. You’ll always be with us.”

“Thank you to our fans for all the messages of support and tributes to Sam,” he added. “It means the world to us. This one’s for you Sammy.”

For the show, the band drafted in Richie Buxton, aka Kid Not, to play bass. He plays regularly with the band Ecca Vandal, who are opening for Limp Bizkit for their ongoing South American dates.

In the days following Rivers’ death, Fred Durst shared a personal video tribute, describing his bandmate as “such a gifted, unbelievably sweet and wonderful person”.

“I was very, very fortunate to have him in my life, and I’m so incredibly grateful to have shared part of this journey with Sam Rivers, a huge part of my journey,” he said. “I’m super, super grateful and I miss him terribly already. All the support and love I’ve seen out there online is overwhelming, he really did have an impact on the world. His music and his gift is the one that’s going to keep on giving. I just love him so much.”

TMZ later reported that Rivers had suffered a cardiac arrest at his home in St. Johns County, Florida, and was “nonresponsive” when found by emergency services.

Limp Bizkit have shows to come in Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil in the next three weeks, and have been announced as headliners for Download Festival 2026.
