Watch Moby perform ‘Father Ted’ favourite ‘My Lovely Horse’ live in Dublin

Moby covered the Father Ted favourite ‘My Lovely Horse’ on stage in Dublin this week – watch footage below.

The electronic pioneer played a show at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham yesterday (August 21) and towards the end of the set, he paid tribute to one of the country’s most beloved comedy songs.

He introduced the track by telling the crowd, “If you need a new national anthem, may I suggest this song?”

‘My Lovely Horse’ featured in the classic Father Ted episode ‘A Song For Europe’, in which Ted and Dougal attempt to represent Ireland in the fictional Eurosong competition, only to finish with “nul points”.

It was written by The Divine Comedy‘s Neil Hannon, alongside Father Ted creators Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews, and was later included as a B-side on The Divine Comedy’s 1999 single ‘Gin Soaked Boy’.

Check out Moby’s rendition here:

Moby’s Dublin setlist:

‘Bodyrock’
‘Go’
‘Next Is The E’
‘In This World’
‘In My Heart’
‘We Are All Made Of Stars’
‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?’
‘Find My Baby’
‘Flower’
‘Lift Me Up’
‘Honey’
‘My Lovely Horse’ (The Divine Comedy cover)
‘Extreme Ways’
‘Porcelain’
‘When It’s Cold I’d Like To Die’
‘Natural Blues’
‘Feeling So Real’

It is not the first time that Moby has played ‘My Lovely Horse’ live – in 2001, he performed it Father Dougal actor Ardal O’Hanlon in front of approximately 80,000 people at Slane Castle in Ireland.

‘A Song For Europe’ received renewed attention earlier this year when Irish broadcaster RTÉ aired the episode in place of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, following the country’s decision to boycott the event over Israel’s participation.

Moby, meanwhile, is in the middle of a run of European dates, and at a recent show on Brighton Beach, he praised the UK’s role in developing rave culture, telling the crowd that British DJs and promoters had transformed house music into the communal experience he discovered during visits in the early ’90s.

He released his latest studio album ‘Future Quiet’ in February, and recently described the Trump government as “the most corrupt, evil and incompetent” administration.
