The season 28 coaches performed their rendition of the Steve Miller Band track in front of a lively audience for their annual coaches’ performance

The Voice Season 28 is almost here, but before a new slate of hopeful contestants tries their luck on the singing competition series, the show’s coaches are getting the stage warmed up for them. For the annual coaches’ performance, returning coaches Niall Horan, Reba McEntire, Michael Bublé, and Snoop Dogg performed their rendition of Steve Miller Band’s “The Joker.”

The four musicians traded off on each lyric of the first verse. “Some people call me the space cowgirl,” Reba kicked off, with Snoop Dogg coming in with “Some call me the gangster of love.” Bublé continued, “Some people call me Maurice,” and Horan brought it home, “‘Cause I speak of the pompatus of love.” The coaches kept the performance light and lively. When McEntire sang “You’re the cutest thing that I ever did see,” Horan leaned in and quipped, “Who me?”

The Voice will return on Sept. 22 with its first round of blind auditions. Bublé is back for his third consecutive season and is the only holdover coach from Season 27. Horan last appeared on Season 24 after winning his debut season the year prior. Snoop Dogg and McEntire both coached during Season 26, which saw a victory for Bublé.

“I have to feel it,” McEntire recently said about her coaching style during the blinds. “It’s not specifically if they can do the best runs or if they’ve got the highest note only dogs can hear…But if I feel it, I mean… there’s a couple that I’d look over at these guys and they go, ‘What?’ and I don’t know why I turn, but I did.”

The upcoming season will be the last to follow the traditional series format ahead of Season 29, which plans to shake things up under the title The Voice: Battle of the Champions. In the new format, coaches will compete for the “Triple Turn Competition” during blind auditions. Competitors who receive three turns will earn special advantages in the next round. In July, NBC announced that Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Adam Levine would return for the season premiering in 2026.
