Watch Noel and Liam Gallagher make first public appearances together outside of Oasis reunion tour at Venice Film Festival

Noel and Liam Gallagher made their first off-stage public appearance together at the Venice Film Festival for the premiere of the new documentary Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger.

The film centres on the brothers’ 2024 reunion and huge ‘Live ‘25’ tour dates. Produced by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace (Meet Me In The Bathroom), the film debuted yesterday (September 5) at the Venice Film Festival under the ‘Out of Competition – Non Fiction’ category.

Apart from their on-stage performances for Oasis’ ‘Live ’25’ tour, the pair have rarely been spotted together in public since disbanding in 2009. So, it was a big deal when the brothers arrived at the premiere side-by-side on a boat yesterday.

The documentary received an eight-minute standing ovation, with Liam and Noel soaking in the applause while holding hands and raising them triumphantly. At one point, Noel even appeared to be wiping tears from his eyes, while Liam was later seen eyeing his watch and mouthing, “Should we fuck off?” before Knight seemingly convinced him to stay.

Though they appeared at the premiere and for the photocall beforehand, the brothers left before the press conference, which was instead attended by Knight, Southern and Lovelace.

Asked during the presser why the Gallaghers weren’t present, Lovelace said: “They were here a second ago having their photograph taken, so they are here,” but did not elaborate further. The brothers were apparently never scheduled to appear at the conference, though journalists and fans in the room seemed not to be aware of this, per Variety.

NME gave Don’t Look Back in Anger four-and-a-half stars, in a review which called the documentary “masterfully done”.

“The impact of the band has never been clearer than over these two hours – as Liam puts it in the final moments, “Oasis saves” – as it reclaims the narrative around them and relives one of the most momentous, miraculous tours of modern times. By the end, you’ll be itching to do it all over again – and maybe, just maybe, we might,” we wrote.

In one clip recorded before their first Cardiff show, Noel says: “I just don’t see myself on stage with Liam, I just don’t see it”.

“The way it finished…unacceptable,” says Liam.

The documentary will be released into cinemas, including IMAX screens, worldwide for a limited theatrical run from September 9, while it will stream on Disney+ around the world, and on Disney+ alongside Hulu in the US, from a later date in 2026.

Meanwhile, the UK premiere will take place on September 7 at Cineworld Leicester Square in London.

Though tensions between the brothers were icy for years, during the tour Noel opened up about what it was like to be back on stage together: “I guess when it’s all set and done, I’ll sit and reflect on it, but it’s great being back in a band with Liam. I’d forgotten how funny he was.”

“Liam’s smashing it, I’m proud of him,” he added. “Having been fronting a band for 16 years, I know how hard that is. I couldn’t do the stadium thing like he does it, it’s not in my nature, but I’ve got to say, good for you, mate. It’s been amazing.”

Elsewhere, Oasis are reportedly planning a huge 2027 UK and Europe tour – including a rumoured show at Knebworth and a huge 12-night Manchester residency at the Etihad Stadium.

Rumours surrounding a return to Knebworth gained pace when the promoter of the ‘Live ‘25’ tour was granted a licence to host gigs there last month, while Noel himself hinted at the possibility, saying that “we’ve got to do something in the summer” as there isn’t a men’s football tournament happening.

Oasis have also shared a few cryptic videos, with fans speculating they are hinting at shows in Glasgow and Manchester.

NME gave Oasis’ first concert at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium a glowing five-star review, writing: “After a ‘90s heyday and an often maligned post-millennium era, this is Oasis redesigned for the 21st Century.”

“Playing before a pop-art-meets-psychedelia visual spectacular that never distracts but will look sick on a phone, they seem the quintessential stadium band playing the greatest hits of greatest hits,” it added.
