The surprise collab took place last night (April 18) during Rae’s performance on the main stage. It came one week after Maddie Zeigler appeared as a guest during the ‘Aquamarine’ Dance break.

As Rae sang the lyric: “I compare myself to the new It Girl,” from her 2025 hit ‘Headphones On’, Rodrigo joined the stage, before the two began performing her own single, ‘Drop Dead’ – which was released only one day before.

Rae traded lines with Rodrigo on the song’s verses, while both pop stars jumped around the stage get the crowd excited for the brand new song. Check it out below:

The new track comes from Rodrigo’s upcoming album ‘You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love’, which will arrive via Geffen on June 12 – pre-order/pre-save here. The follow-up to 2023’s ‘Guts’ sees her reunite with producer and regular collaborator Dan Nigro, who also produced ‘Guts’ and her 2021 debut ‘Sour’.

Rich in dreamy synth and harmonies, the track notably features a reference to The Cure, with Rodrigo singing: “You know all the words to ‘Just Like Heaven’/And I know why he wrote them now that you’re standing right here”.

It comes after she brought out Robert Smith during her headline set at Glastonbury last summer, performing ‘Friday I’m In Love’ and ‘Just Like Heaven’. Rodrigo then released the duets with Smith as part of her ‘Live From Glastonbury 2025’ album.

Earlier this week, she shared the music video, which sees her take over Versailles in Paris.

The album announcement came after weeks of speculation, after cryptic pink album teasers cropped up around Los Angeles and London. In a recent interview with British Vogue, the record was described as Rodrigo at her “most experimental”, with one track being labelled as “smooth, trippy soft rock”.

Rodrigo herself told the publication that the album consists of “sad love songs”, adding: “I realised all my favourite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them.”

“I’ve found a lot of inspiration from being in London,” she added. “I’ve spent so much time here over the course of making this album. It has a lot of songs that are London vibes, about experiences that I’ve had here.

“It was a creative challenge to write from a joyful place. When you’re experiencing that you’re connected to someone, or feeling really good, you’re not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!”

As for Rae, she released her debut album ‘Addison‘ last year, which landed at Number Two in NME‘s 50 Best Albums of 2025 list.

“Addison Rae dreamt ‘Addison’ into existence, working from a mood board of colours and vague feelings rather than specific sonic references,” the entry read. “What emerged from this vibes-based approach is one of the best pop debuts in recent memory: starry-eyed, enigmatic observations on love, fame and money for an era in need of its hedonistic ethos.”

Her single ‘Headphones On’ also came in at Number Eight in our 50 Best Songs of 2025 list, with an entry reading: “With notes of dreamy ’90s R&B and Madonna’s ‘Ray Of Light’ era, pop’s brightest new star gives us plenty of reason to tune in.”

We also caught Addison live at London’s O2 Academy Brixton last year, where we gave her performance a four-star review. “When she’s not exuberantly thanking the crowd in front of her, Rae delivers a euphoric hour-long set of perfect pop,” we wrote.

“The lights blackout for the fake ending, and when they turn back on for the key change, she’s standing triumphant, the screen behind her transformed into a cascading torrent of falling sparks. Once again, she’s made the hard things look really easy.”
