Watch Pearl Jam joined by Peter Frampton for ‘Black’ in Nashville

Pearl Jam were joined on stage in Nashville by Peter Frampton this week for a version of ‘Black’ – watch footage below.

The Seattle band are currently in the middle of an extension of their ‘Dark Matter’ world tour, which took them to the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Thursday night (May 8).

Early in their hefty 25-song setlist, Eddie Vedder took the time to introduce ‘70s guitar hero Frampton, who he noted is a longtime favourite of the band. “This gentlemen was someone we looked up to,” he told the crowd. “Before the Ramones, some of our first guitar heroes, Jimmy Page, Pete Townshend, he was right up there. It was one of the reasons why you loved live records.”

“Later, we decided to release bootlegs because of his influence. He’s such an incredible human being on top of it.”

They played the grunge ballad ‘Black’, from Pearl Jam’s classic 1991 debut album ‘Ten’, with Frampton adding some signature shreds and the band throwing in a riff from his 1973 track ‘Do You Feel Like We Do’. See fan-captured footage here:

Pearl Jam played:

‘Long Road’
‘Garden’
‘Rearviewmirror’
‘Hail, Hail’
‘React, Respond’
‘Once’
‘Black’ (with Peter Frampton)
‘Even Flow’
‘Dark Matter’
‘Wreckage’
‘Not For You’
‘Wishlist’
‘Insignificance’
‘Won’t Tell’
‘Spin The Black Circle’
‘Better Man’
‘Porch’
‘Just Breathe’
‘State Of Love And Trust’
‘Crazy Mary’
‘Do The Evolution’
‘Sonic Reducer’
‘Alive’
‘Rockin’ In The Free World’
‘Yellow Ledbetter’

Pearl Jam have four dates remaining on their ‘Dark Matter’ tour, including two nights in Raleigh (May 11 and 13) and two in Pittsburgh (May 16 and 18).

In an NME review of ‘Dark Matter’, Liberty Dunworth wrote: “For those longing for the charismatic songwriting that first put the band on the map over three decades ago, ‘Dark Matter’ will come as a pleasant surprise.”

“Not only does it showcase Pearl Jam reclaiming the charm that first made them a force to be reckoned with back in 1991, it comes alongside some of their most impressive musicianship yet, as well as a determination to take risks after years of playing it safe.”

Frampton, meanwhile, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame last year, alongside Ozzy Osbourne, Cher, Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest and Dave Matthews Band. He was inducted by The Who’s Roger Daltrey.
