Hawley made a surprise appearance during the Sheffield band’s performance on the Sarah Nulty Main Stage at Sheffield’s Hillsborough Park on Sunday (July 26).

During the performance, frontman McClure gave an emotional tribute to his family, telling the crowd: “My name is Jon McClure. The son of the late John McClure Snr., who used to always come to Tramlines, we used to stand down there.”

He also pointed to the side of the stage where his mother and brother were stood, and stormed through the likes of ‘Heavyweight Champion of The World’, ‘Haircut’ and ‘Heatwave in the Cold North’, before he wrapped up the set with a Hawley-assisted ‘Silence Is Talking’ – which you can check out below.

Taking to Instagram after the festival slot, McClure wrote: “What a special moment. All the family together l. Thankyou to everyone saying nice things in the comments and mentions. We see them.”

He also gave a shoutout to his “Sheffield brothers” Hawley and K Dot for jumping onstage for the set.

Reverend and the Makers at Tramlines 2026 played:

‘Bassline’
‘Open Your Window’
‘Haircut’
‘Heavyweight Champion of the World’
‘Shine the Light’
‘Heatwave in the Cold North’
‘Out of the Shadows’
‘He Said He Loved Me’
‘Silence Is Talking’ (with Richard Hawley)

Reverend And The Makers’ recently shared eighth studio release, ‘Is This How Happiness Feels?’, follows the band’s top 10 album ‘Heatwave In The Cold North’, and saw them merge “life-affirming soul with contemporary lyrical storytelling”.

“This album has been a labour of love owing to personal reasons but has emerged as a joyous triumph,” McClure said of the record back in May. “It’s easily the best thing we’ve ever done and will surprise a few people too.”

McClure previously revealed to NME that he had been diagnosed with ADHD, and shed some light on how it affected his creative process.

He said at the time: “I understand myself better. When I was 24, I thought I knew everything and I’d gob off to NME about everything. I knew fuck all. Looking back, to when I was kicking off at people, I was probably quite poorly for most of my career. I wasn’t well mentally. If you add drugs into that, plus my best mate [Alex Turner] being in the biggest band in the world and feeling jealous of him, it was a bad mix.”

He added: “Now I understand myself, ADHD is like a special power I’ve not known how to harness before. I’m 42 and it’s like I was infantilised until now. In my case, before being diagnosed, ADHD left me taking a lot longer to grow up and be responsible. Now I have, I feel I can do anything.”

In other news, McClure was announced last month as the new club chairman of Sheffield FC.
