‘I Burn For You’ is considered to be one of Sting’s holy grails – he first wrote and recorded the song with his first band Last Exit in the 1970s. In 1981, after joining the Police, the band re-recorded the song but only ever released it in compilations and not a full album.
While performing in Ontario, Canada on Saturday (September 21), the musician pulled out the song for its first live performance since 1990.

Sting had played ‘I Burn For You’ at a number of sound checks before gigs in 2022, but hasn’t played the track in front of a live audience since 1990. Most recently, ‘I Burn For You’ was included in the Police’s ‘Synchronicity’ boxset, which was released earlier this year.
Last month, Sting teamed up to perform with Philippe Petit as the latter recreated his iconic Twin Towers highwire stunt. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of his Twin Towers highwire stunt – an unauthorised walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City done on August 7th, 1974 – Petit took the opportunity to recreate it at Manhattan’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
The 74-year-old French artist walked across the tightrope as Sting sat down below and performed his tracks ‘Fragile’ and ‘Field Of Gold’ while accompanied by a live orchestra. Sting also debuted a new song titled ‘Let the Great World Spin’ from his upcoming musical about Petit.
