Former Wonder Girls members Sunye, Yubin and Sunmi recently reunited to perform some of the group’s biggest hits for the first time in years.
On September 16, KBS aired its DDanddara JYP project, a special commemorating the 30th anniversary of JYP Entertainment founder and singer Park Jin-young’s debut. During the special, several past and present acts from the K-pop agency, including Sunye, Yubin and Sunmi of its first girl group Wonder Girls, performed some of their most popular tracks.
The trio reunited to perform Wonder Girls’ 2008 hit single ‘Nobody’ from their first EP ‘The Wonder Years: Trilogy’, which became the first song by a Korean artist to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 2009.
“I want nobody, nobody but you / I want nobody, nobody but you / I don’t want anyone else / I can’t have anyone but you / I want nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody,” they sing in the chorus.
Later, Park joined them on stage to perform two more of their hits, 2007’s ‘Tell Me’ and 2008’s ‘So Hot’, complete with both songs’ choreography.
The group first debuted in 2007 as a five-member act that included Sunye, Sunmi, Yeeun, Sohee and HyunA. Yubin was added to the line-up shortly after their debut, following HyunA’s departure due to health issues. Sunmi was absent from the group between 2010 to 2015 in order to pursue her studies, and they were joined by Hyerim.
After Sunye and Sohee’s departure and Sunmi’s return to the group, Wonder Girls re-organised as a four-piece band comprising Yeeun, Sunmi, Yubin and Hyerim. As a quartet they released the hits, ‘I Feel You’ and ‘Why So Lonely’ in 2015 and 2016 respectively, before disbanding in February 2017 with their final single ‘Draw Me’.
