Wheatus frontman Brendan B. Brown has discussed a collaboration with Ed Sheeran.

In July, the pair performed the rock band’s noughties classic Teenage Dirtbag with the global megastar’s high school band onstage in Hamburg, Germany.

Brown and Sheeran have struck up a friendship and have met up since – over a pint of Guinness – and got talking about potentially recording together.

In an exclusive interview with ContactMusic.com, Brown said of the Shape of You hitmaker: “He was quite a gentleman. Invited me to be a part of his immense spaceship show, and I was happy to jump up there. Quite honorued to be included. And his crew and his people are all really lovely, hard-working.”

The 52-year-old rocker praised the Grammy winner’s stripped-back approach to live shows, contrasting it with the heavily produced setups common in mainstream pop.

He said: “It was impressive to see him do those shows. A lot of the pop artists use a lot of safety net mechanisms, backing tracks, or light shows, other distractions, and he’s just raw dogging them shows by himself. Man, it’s just him up there. So it’s kind of crazy to watch that happen.”

Asked if they plan to hit the studio together, he replied: “I think we certainly will. Yeah, I would love to. I talked to him about it yesterday, in fact.”

Brown is good friends with Busted star James Bourne, who has recently been forced to step back from the band’s Busted vs Mcfly tour due to ill health.

The musician is hoping his pal will be back to doing what he does best, and would love to work with him.

He said: “One of my favourite people on Earth is James Bourne from Busted. He’s my good friend. We’ve been very good friends for a very long time, and I know that he’s been unable to tour with the band at the moment, and I am hopefully looking forward to his return. But I would love to sit and collaborate with my friend James a few more times before we finish these journeys around the sun.”

Wheatus previously collaborated with Busted on a new version of Who’s David 2.0 for the pop punk band’s 2023 Greatest Hits 2.0 collection.

Catch Wheatus live in the UK and Ireland this November and December on their 25th anniversary tour by grabbing remaining tickets via www.wheatus.com/shows.
