Christmas has a whole canon of music devoted to the holiday, and there are plenty of spooky songs to soundtrack Halloween each year — but the amount of tunes out there dedicated to Thanksgiving are slim to none.
However, there are quite a few songs about the concept of gratitude in general with which we can supplement the Thanksgiving songbook, and for that, we give thanks. Artists of all generations and musical backgrounds have penned meaningful, relatable tributes to the subject over the years, whether with respect to saying “thanks” for what they’ve got or to saying “thanks, but no thanks” to what they’d be more grateful not to have. There are all sorts of ways to show your appreciation, not to mention the variety of different languages with which you can tell someone “Gracias,” “Merci,” “Arigato,” “Danke” or “Asante.”
That’s why Billboard recently rounded up some of our favorite pieces of music about gratitude, featuring everything from Ariana Grande’s “Thank U, Next” to Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Gratitude,” Keith Urban’s “Thank You” and DJ Khaled, Lil Wayne and Jeremih’s “Thankful.” Much like a perfectly executed Thanksgiving spread, there’s something for everyone on the list, whether it’s pop, rock, country, hip-hop, R&B or soul — and Billboard would be deeply grateful to know which one is your favorite flavor.
