Wilco announce first gigs in Marrakech with “three unique sets”

Wilco have announced “three unique” live shows in Marrakech, which will mark their first ever performances in Africa.

The live shows are set to take place in partnership with Pilgrimage of Sound, and will be held in the Moroccan city between March 25 and 27 next year.

The structure of the live gigs is similar to what they did in Iceland back in 2023, where Jeff Tweedy and co. announced their first shows in the country, and played a three-night residency at Reykjavík’s Eldborg Hall at Harpa.

This time around, the three-day run will see the Chicago rock band perform their first ever shows in Africa, and play three unique shows over three consecutive nights.

For those attending the Marrakech gigs, Wilco will break out entirely different setlists each night, with no songs repeated live throughout the entire weekend.

Tickets are available as a package offer, with attendees provided with four or five nights in luxurious local accommodations, airport transfers to their accommodations, daily shuttles to and from the venue, and a merchandise package shipped to their door.

Guests can choose their own type of accommodation too, ranging from high end Riads tucked inside Marrakech’s 1,000 year old Medina, to modern hotels in the heart of the city.

The daytime will be free to explore the city, and ticketholders can also opt to have a guide take them though a dozen curated excursions – including a sunrise hot air balloon ride and a guided hike through the foothills of the Atlas Mountains.

Multi-Day tours are offered pre- and post-show too, ranging from thee days to 16 days so that guests can explore more of the country, and VIP options include upgrades at the venue, early entry and additional exclusive merchandise unavailable anywhere else.

Pre-sale registration for the Wilco residency in Marrakech is open now and available here. The pre-sale options begin from Wednesday (June 10), and general on sale starts from next Friday (June 12) at 6pm BST.

The indie band’ last studio album was 2023’s ‘Cousin’, and they then followed it up with the ‘Hot Sun Cool Shroud’ EP the following year.

They will also be embarking on a UK and European headline tour later this summer, which includes a slot at London’s Eventim Apollo Hammersmith in August. Visit here for remaining tickets to those dates.

Last year, Tweedy announced a new triple solo album, ‘Twilight Override’ – his fifth record as a solo artist and containing 30 tracks – and he then went on to join Hayley Williams, Waxahatchee, Weyes Blood, Rufus Wainwright, Maren Morris and more as special guests when Bleachers performed at Newport Folk Festival 2025.

More recently, the frontman shared an emotive cover of Cameron Winter’s ‘Love Takes Miles’ for Valentine’s Day, dedicated to his wife Susan, and made a crossword puzzle for the New York Times featuring nods to David Bowie, Sex Pistols and more.

In 2022, the frontman spoke to NME for our Soundtrack Of My Life series, and revealed that Wilco’s song ‘Shake It Off’ from ‘Sky Blue Sky’ is one song he can’t listen to anymore.

“It’s just one of those songs that I just feel like I could do so much better now,” he said. “I just can’t listen to it. I probably would be happy playing it if somebody in the band wanted to or we got a request, but as far as the recorded version goes, I won’t listen!”
