Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy shares heartfelt cover of Cameron Winter’s ‘Love Takes Miles’

Jeff Tweedy of Wilco has shared an emotive cover of Cameron Winter‘s ‘Love Takes Miles’ for Valentine’s Day.

The cover was shared to the singer’s Substack page on Saturday (February 14), and was dedicated to his wife Susan, while the two of them were in different countries.

In the heartfelt message he shared in a voice note, Tweedy revealed that he was in Paris on tour, and missing his partner. He also acknowledged that while it might be “a little bit too on the nose” to share a cover from Paris on Valentine’s Day, he wanted to perform a song that he thought was accurate in describing how love actually feels.

That song in question was ‘Love Takes Miles’, which was written by Geese frontman Cameron Winter for his 2024 debut solo album ‘Heavy Metal’.

“I tried to get Susie to come and visit me on the tour in Paris, and she wasn’t having it. I think she wasn’t up for the travel…I get it,” he began. “I picked this song for Susie. It seems very true to me about how love kind of actually works.”

“I think you can feel the immediate feeling of love over and over and over again. But real love takes a lot of miles, a lot of time,” he added. “That’s the kind of love that makes ground harder under your feet and colours stronger. It’s just not the same thing as puppy love.”

“It’s a poignant song for such a young person to put out into the world,” Tweedy continued, also encouraging fans to “check out the rest of Cameron’s songs”, both as a solo artist and with Geese.

He concluded the voice note by praising them for their slot on Saturday Night Live recently, and sharing that his wife said that she “would have loved to have booked them at Lounge Ax” in Chicago. The two of them co-owned the iconic venue, which closed in 2000.

The latest cover from Tweedy comes following the Wilco star joining Hayley Williams, Waxahatchee, Weyes Blood, Rufus Wainwright, Maren Morris and more as special guests last year when Bleachers performed at Newport Folk Festival 2025.

Later that year, the singer and guitarist announced a new triple solo album, ‘Twilight Override’. It arrived in September, marked his fifth record as a solo artist, and contained 30 tracks that he recorded and produced himself at his Chicago studio The Loft.

Already, he has completed a tour of North America celebrating the LP, and the latest show in Paris comes as part of his 2026 European tour dates. Tweedy will play a show at London’s Islington Assembly Hall on Friday (February 20), and you can visit here for any remaining tickets.

As for Geese, the former NME Cover stars are still keeping up the momentum after a mammoth 2025 – which also saw their new album ‘Getting Killed’ given a five-star review from NME, and later land at the Number One spot on our 50 best albums of the year list.

Their track ‘Taxes’ from the record also came in at Number Two in NME‘s round-up of the 50 best songs of 2025, and among the huge names sharing praise for the band are Nick Cave, King Princess and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Last month, frontman Cameron Winter played a secret set at a charity show under the alias Chet Chomsky, and shows no signs of slowing down either. Already this year, Geese have been longlisted for the BBC Radio 1 Sound Of 2026, and confirmed for Reading & Leeds, too.
