Willow Releases New Album Petal Rock Black

After much teasing last week, Willow has released a new album. Petal Rock Black is her seventh studio LP and it’s out now via Three Six Zero. She wrote, performed, and produced the record, enlisting guests George Clinton, Kamasi Washington, and Tune-Yards for good measure. Give it a listen below.

In a press release, Willow describes Petal Rock Black as “a personal offering that honors the labor of creation: of self, of sound, of community. It’s a celebration of life, of artistic dedication, and of all those who use their hands to shift culture toward something more beautiful.” It follows her 2024 album Empathogen.

In a video teaser, Willow revealed that she plays guitar, piano, and drums on Petal Rock Black, and that it took over 18 months of work in the studio to complete the album. “I have no doubt we need that kind of pressurized experience in order to touch new places inside of ourselves—no matter how much the fear of failure or the unknown might haunt us, we come back to ourselves again,” she says in the clip.
