Afrobeats star Wizkid is back with “Piece of My Heart,” a new single featuring Brent Faiyaz. The duo teased the song in an Instagram clip earlier on Thursday with glimpses of a luxurious mansion set in the countryside.
The track offers two distinct parts. In the first half, Faiyaz delivers the chorus: “Nothing can tear us apart/You’ve got a piece of my heart/Nothing can tear us apart.” The breezy track also sees Wizkid proclaim, “If I ever hurt you, I mean well, what I gotta do to make you know it’s all real?/If I could, I would keep you to myself.”
The tempo slows close to the three-minute mark, as Faiyaz sings, “She don’t know, what it cost to live this life/Your price ain’t low, that’s why I write best on these flights.”
Wizkid and US R&B singer Brent Faiyaz were seen together in Paris earlier this month at Business of Fashion’s BoF500 Gala where Wizkid performed his hits like “Ojuelegba” and “Essence.” Rolling Stone named “Essence,” featuring Tems, the best song of 2021.
Morayo, a name that translate to “I see joy” in his native Yoruba, will be Wizkid’s sixth studio album, called “a deeply personal tribute to his late mother” in a press release. It follows 2023’s S2 EP and his fifth studio album More Love, Less Ego from 2022. In 2020, Wizkid released one of his best known albums to date, Made in Lagos, the deluxe of which was nominated for Best Global Music Album at the 2022 Grammy awards. Ahead of the ceremony, Wizkid told Rolling Stone he achieved the well received album by following his gut. “The most important thing, and the first thing that I focused on, was just making good music. If you make good product, people are going to love it,” he said. “It was very important for me to make quality music and something that feeds my soul. That’s all I focused on.”
