Wu Lyf announce official retail release of ‘A Wave That Will Never Break’

Wu Lyf have announced an official retail release of ‘A Wave That Will Never Break‘. Find all the details below.

The album, which was released in April, came as the Manchester indie band’s first in 15 years and the long-awaited follow-up to their 2011 debut album, ‘Go Tell Fire To The Mountain’.

It was initially shared only through their WORLDUNITE.ORG platform and for their L Y F community, rather than on streaming services, and it went on to debut at Number 13 in the Official UK Albums Chart.

Now, they’ve announced that the album will finally be available in record shops worldwide from June 26, via LYF Recordings. You can pre-order it here.

It marks the album’s first appearance in stores and will feature exclusive new artwork unique to this edition, which you can check out below.

Speaking to NME earlier this year, Wu Lyf explained how the album’s roll-out was their way of “creating a space for the work to be experienced as a whole, instead of being encountered in passing” on platforms like Spotify. They’ve also removed their back catalogue from the service, and even went as far as to troll users with a Homer Simpson-sung version of recent single ‘The Fool‘ that directed them to Wu Lyf’s own hub.

“It was more the idea that playing together for the first time sounded good than anything else, then it all grew from there. I don’t think anyone sits down with a masterplan before they start,” explained Tom McClung about the comeback.

“That develops over time. We want to build something from this foundation that we find quite solid and interesting.”

Ellery Roberts added: “Even though media publications have constructed some kind of sense of marketing masterplans with everything we’ve done in the past, my relationship with it is just that we’ve made intuitive decisions based on what feels true and right in the moment.

“I don’t think it’s necessarily about proving anything other than trying to forge a way. An alternative is possible, and you only know that by trying it. We don’t know what will come of our endeavours at this moment in time, but we have all agreed to stand by our choices and see them through.”

Later this year, Wu Lyf will be heading on a UK and European headline tour. You can find a full list of dates here, and any remaining tickets here.
