Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man Addresses No-Show at Australia Tour Dates

Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man is addressing backlash from fans after missing the group’s recent Australian tour dates, saying he had never committed to appearing and placing responsibility on promoters for advertising the shows as featuring all living members.

The hip-hop collective’s Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber Tour was promoted as including the full lineup. However, Method Man — along with Raekwon, Cappadonna and Young Dirty Bastard — did not appear at the Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney shows, prompting frustration from fans who had purchased tickets expecting a complete reunion.

Following the Brisbane performance, attendees took to social media to flag the absences, leading ticketing platform Ticketek to offer refunds to some concertgoers for the Melbourne and Sydney dates.

In an Instagram Live over the weekend, Method Man said he had made it clear prior to the international leg of the tour that he would not be participating in the Australian shows due to other commitments.

“Before we even went on the overseas tour, I wasn’t going. I said I wasn’t going. I said I was booked,” he said.

The rapper, born Clifford Smith Jr., suggested promoters continued marketing the shows with the expectation of a full lineup despite knowing he had not agreed to appear.

“I was seeing flyers saying all living members are going to be there… they know that I haven’t agreed to go on the tour yet,” he said, adding that promoters were “overzealous” in their promotion of the dates.

Method Man also claimed the situation reflects a broader issue within touring, where key information is sometimes withheld from ticket buyers until late in the process.

“Sometimes the promoters are privy to this information but don’t want to give out this information,” he said. “They’ll wait for the ticket sales, and then they’ll make an announcement close to the date, which I don’t think is fair.” He added that his decision was not directed at fans, noting his appreciation for Australian audiences. “The reason why I’m even giving this explanation is because I love our fans, love Australia. But again, if I’m booked, I’m booked,” he said.

A spokesperson for the local promoter told Rolling Stone AU/NZ that all living members of Wu-Tang Clan had been confirmed for the Australian tour and that visa and travel arrangements were made accordingly.

Wu-Tang Clan last toured Australia in 2023. The current farewell run launched in the United States in February and is scheduled to continue in Japan in May before returning for additional U.S. dates later this year.
