The Leeds band will soon return with their third album, ‘You’re Gonna Need A Little Music’, on July 17 via Island Records (pre-order/pre-save here). It’s their first new record since 2024’s ‘Where’s My Utopia?‘ and so far has been previewed by the menacing single ‘Redeemer’.

Now, they’ve shared the next taste of the upcoming album in the form of ‘New Beginnings’. In contrast to the existential themes of ‘Redeemer’, the new track sees them adopt a positive mindset and look to the future, above an anthemic guitar riff.

Describing the track, the band’s vocalist, James Smith, explains: “’New Beginnings’ is a bit of light to counteract the dark we led with. Sometimes we’ve already shed our old skin without even realising it’s happening. Celebrate the new, because you can’t go back.”

Listen below.

The band worked with Nine Inch Nails bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen on the album, and recorded it between LA and Leeds. It also marks the first time the band have made a record live in the same room.

Yard Act have also extended their UK 2026 tour with a number of new dates, having previously announced shows in Leeds, Manchester and London. They’ve added an extra hometown show on November 7, and they’re also due to visit Newcastle (10), Glasgow (11), Leicester (16), Cambridge (18), Bristol (21) and more. You can get your tickets here.

When ‘Where’s My Utopia?’ dropped, NME gave the record a four-star review, saying that it “marks an outlandish yet assertive second chapter for Yard Act, going toe-to-toe with the peculiar world that we find ourselves in”.

Speaking to NME about ‘Where’s My Utopia?’ in October 2023, Smith explained that it was “about hope and perseverance”.

“A lot of what we’ve always done has been rooted in where society is at and a comment on the times, but it’s more universal,” he added. “Human beings have always been driven by our ambitions.

“In a world where there’s currently supermarkets where you can get food from and houses you can live in, once we’ve got the basics covered our minds aspire for other things our minds think are important because we’re not content in just being animals.”
