Yungblud on the time he met Liam Gallagher – who thought he was a woman

Yungblud has recalled the time he met Liam Gallagher, and shared that the Oasis legend thought that he was a woman.

The Doncaster-born punk singer recalled his interaction with the Britpop icon during a new interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1, and revealed that Liam Gallagher was pretty fond of his music – even though he didn’t realise he was a man.

Recalling how he bumped into him at a live show, Yungblud said: “Me and Scottish Adam [Warrington, guitarist] met him backstage once, and he said something about me apparently…

“Obviously I was wearing skirts on stage at the time. And he goes to Adam” ‘What the fuck? What are you doing back here?’ and [Adam’s] like, ‘Oh, I’m just drinking.’ He’s like, ‘You in a band?’ and Adam’s like, “Yeah, I play with Yungblud’.

“Liam’s like, ‘Ah, fucking hell. Don’t fucking like Yungblud,” and walks off! But then he comes back to him, he’s like, ‘I do. She’s amazing.’

Yungblud went on to laugh about the misunderstanding, and said it must have been “because I was wearing skirts at the time”. He added: “I was like, ‘I’m down with that.’ And honestly, they all came back running to the bus like, ‘You’ll never fucking guess what’s happened!’”

Check out the full interview with Yungblud below.

The discussion comes as the singer – real name Dominic Harrison – is gearing up to release part one of his double fourth album, ‘Idols’, this Friday (June 20)

In an interview with NME last year, he revealed that the Britpop heavyweights had played a role in inspiring the sound of the new record – as had The Verve, Primal Scream, Suede, Stone Roses, David Bowie and Madonna.

“It’s that thing in your stomach when you listen to [them],” he shared. “It makes me feel like I can get up today. It makes me feel like I’m invincible and that I can do anything – that’s what this new album sounds like.”

Speaking to NME again this month, Yungblud also shared that his intention going into the ‘Idols’ writing sessions was to make a record that stood the test of time – drawing inspiration from the likes of  Stevie Nicks, Elton John and Pink Floyd.

“The world doesn’t need another surface-level album,” he said. “Even if this isn’t commercially successful, that’s the risk I wanted to take with it. If I don’t release a piece of art with this depth, I’ll be overlooked forever.”

“This album was all about self-reclamation – who the fuck is Dom?” he added. “I’m trying to go home [more often], to see my mother, my sisters and fucking feel that energy of the north… it inevitably shows you who you are.”

The record has been described as his “most ambitious” yet and will follow on from his 2022 self-titled third album. So far, the first part of ‘Idols’ has been previewed with the singles ‘Hello Heaven, Hello’ and ‘Lovesick Lullaby’.

To celebrate the release, Harrison will be embarking on a UK and Ireland arena tour in 2026 – and you can buy any remaining tickets here.

Those huge shows will come after a brief run of ‘Up Close And Personal’ UK dates this summer, as well as headline tours across North America and Europe, and a huge second edition of his own festival, BludFest, which takes place in Milton Keynes on June 21.
