Yuridia Makes History at Estadio GNP Seguros: ‘Women Sell Tickets Too’

Written by: News Room Last updated: September 3, 2026

With more than 20 years of career, Yuridia is today one of the most important female voices in Mexican music. The singer, who rose to fame through the reality show La Academia, is making history this week as the first Mexican woman to perform at — and sell out — the Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City. And she will do so not just once, but twice — on Thursday (Sept. 3) and Friday (Sept. 4).

The shows mark the start of her Las Cartas Sobre La Mesa Tour, with its first leg consisting of 19 dates across Mexico, and concluding on Dec. 5 in Guadalajara.

Born in Sonora and raised in the United States, Yuridia returned to Mexico in 2005 to participate in the TV competition, finishing in second place. She initially found success with pop songs like “Ángel,” “Te Equivocaste” and “Amigos No Por Favor.” Later, she transitioned into regional Mexican music with the albums Pa’ Luego Es Tarde (2022) and Sin Llorar (2025), as well as another set to be released in early 2027 — all under the direction of renowned singer and producer Edén Muñoz.

In recent years, she has recorded such prominent collaborations as “Qué Agonía” with Ángela Aguilar, which entered the top 10 of Billboard‘s Latin Airplay chart, as well as “Mi Eterno Amor Secreto” with Muñoz and “Un Bendito Día” with Alejandro Fernández, both of which reached No. 1 on Regional Mexican Airplay.

Yuridia Gaxiola Flores arrives at the Estadio GNP Seguros after filling La Plaza de Toros La México in April 2025, a venue with a capacity of over 40.000 people. That event was also historic, as no other woman had achieved this feat before.

In the midst of rehearsals for her tour, the 39-year-old singer spoke briefly with Billboard Español about this milestone in her career and the role of women in Mexican music.

Do you think women are given the recognition they deserve in regional Mexican music?

In Mexico, there have been many incredible women that I grew up listening to. From Lola Beltrán to Rocío Dúrcal, Chavela Vargas and Linda Ronstadt — [Linda Ronstadt is] someone very special to me, she was my ultimate favorite. The thing is, sometimes women’s achievements aren’t highlighted enough, especially in a genre that’s supposed to be very macho and tough. That really needs to change, and we need to be allowed to show that women sell tickets too, and can be seen as a good business opportunity in regional Mexican music.

What does this achievement mean for your life and career?

Filling the Estadio GNP Seguros at this point in my life is something incredibly important — not just for me, but also for my family, who have always been with me in this journey. We never dared to dream of something so big, considering we were a family that had to leave Mexico to have a better life and later return. And now, to be filling a stadium like this is something I still can’t fully process. And it’s not just about filling this venue; seeing any venue I perform at packed is incredible to me.

Are there plans to take this tour to the rest of Latin America?

Yes, we have plans and a lot of hope to visit Latin America. Right now, my heart is set on Colombia, where we’ve been getting a lot of requests to perform — because Colombia and Mexico are like siblings, and both love regional music. We’re planning to go there sometime after my tour in Mexico and the United States.

Have you thought about returning to pop, or will you continue in regional Mexican music?

I haven’t thought about returning to pop or pop ballads just yet — but I can tell you that this new album we’re working on has a lot of pop, mixed with regional. In the studio, I’m using a lot of the techniques I used when I recorded my pop albums. Edén Muñoz is also the producer for this project, and he’s very interested in pop music, so we’re creating a fusion that excites me a lot. It takes me back to what I used to do — without leaving regional music behind, because this genre has always been the goal of my career.
