Charlie Puth no longer drinks alcohol: ‘It clouds my judgment’

Charlie Puth has stopped drinking alcohol because he finds it “clouds (his) judgment”.

In an interview for Rolling Stone published on Tuesday, the singer-songwriter recalled how he had a moment of clarity around the time of the release of his third studio album Charlie in 2022.

After deciding he was going to have a “rager” in New York City one night, Puth woke up with the “worst hangover” the next day.

“It lasted for, I think, two days. And I saw pictures of myself with people I didn’t even know,” he remembered. “It’s hard to describe, but after years of surrounding myself with the wrong things and saying the wrong things, it’s profound when it just all comes to a screeching halt one day at 30 years old in New York City.”

Puth went on to emphasise that he doesn’t “drink at all” now.

“I think it clouds my judgment,” the 34-year-old mused.

Elsewhere in the conversation, the Attention singer discussed some of the “cringe” moments he had in the early days of his career, such as wearing a fake lip ring and dyeing his hair blond.

“I made tons of mistakes along the way. The blond hair was really bad. I don’t know what I was thinking there,” he sighed. “I can’t even look at myself half the time from the years 2015 to 2022. I just didn’t know what I was doing. I used to be very cringe.”

Puth has a busy 2026 lined up, as he is currently preparing to sing America’s National Anthem at the Super Bowl on 8 February and is set to release his fourth studio album, Whatever’s Clever!, on 27 March.

In addition, his wife Brooke Sansone is due to give birth to the couple’s first child in March.
