The track is the first single off the musician’s new album, Sunday Best

Nick Jonas appeared on The Tonight Show to perform his recent song, “Gut Punch.” The musician began the emotional performance on the piano before standing up as the chorus kicked in. He was accompanied by a ballerina and two percussionists/dancers, who added a sense of dramatic flair.

Jonas released “Gut Punch” on New Year’s Day. It is the first single from his forthcoming LP, Sunday Best, out Feb. 6 via Republic Records. The album marks the musician’s first solo effort in five years. He described it as a collection of “new stories, candid thoughts, quiet walks home in the city, and snapshots of my life over these past few years.”

“Gut Punch” reflects on Jonas’ self doubt. “I tend to be hyper critical of myself, not typically about my appearance or getting older, but I was wondering, ‘Am I doing everything to be the best version of myself? Am I a present and thoughtful husband? Am I a good father?’” he shared in a statement when he released the song. “As time goes by, the stress and complications of life will weigh on you. It’s important to remember there was once a version of you who was carefree and loved the world.”

Jonas first debuted “Gut Punch” live in November while on tour with the Jonas Brothers in Las Vegas. He also performed it at the group’s Samsung TV Plus New Year’s Eve show in Miami.

Jonas’ last album, Spaceman, was released in 2021. The 11-song set was the follow-up to 2016’s Last Year Was Complicated.
