Bedding firm backs down on ‘Swift Home’ trademark after Taylor Swift appeal

Bedding firm backs down on ‘Swift Home’ trademark after Taylor Swift appeal

A bedding firm looking to trademark the phrase ‘Swift Home’ has withdrawn the application following an appeal by Taylor Swift.

The application to trademark the term was filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office by New York-based company, Cathay Home, last week (Wednesday February 11).

It was quickly thrown into question when the pop star – represented by TAS Rights Management LLC – appealed, and asked for the US government to block the request.

Her team argued that the font used by Cathay Home was a similar style of cursive to that of Swift’s trademarked signature, and that the word “swift” itself could mislead customers into believing that the range has been endorsed by the ‘Bad Blood’ singer.

They added that it creates a “false association” with the pop star, and alleged that the request for the trademark was an attempt to use Swift’s “goodwill and recognition” to help benefit the brand.

Now, it has been revealed that the bedding company has withdrawn its application.

The lawyer representing Cathay Home, Ting Geng from Geng and Associates, confirmed the news in a recent statement. She said that the firm had previously reached a “consent-to-coexist agreement” with Swift’s team regarding a separate “Swift Home” range, but would be deciding not to proceed with the latest trademark request.

“Such decisions are often practical and commercially sensible,” Geng said (as per BBC News).

The outlet claims that the global superstar has filed over 300 trademarks securing her name, initials, album titles and some lyrics. These trademarks also work to protect the use of her name on various items including clothes, bedding and more.

The pop star dropped her latest album, ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’, in October 2025 and it was later confirmed as being the best-selling album of that year in the UK.

Since then, she has become the youngest female artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame, and also enlisted Graham Norton, Domhnall Gleeson, Lewis Capaldi, Cillian Murphy and more for a new ‘Opalite’ music video.

Over the weekend, Swift also shared an extended cut of the music video, as well as a Chris Lake EDM ‘Opalite’ remix inspired by “in-house house guy” (and Swift’s fiancé) Travis Kelce.
