American Football announce long-awaited fourth album

American Football have officially announced their long-awaited fourth album.

The iconic emo band shared an update with fans, confirming that their new record ‘LP4’ is going to be released on May 1 via Polyvinyl.

It comes on the heels of their ‘LP3’ record, which arrived in 2019, and their sophomore album ‘LP2’, which dropped in 2016.

Their second album arrived an impressive 17-years after their breakthrough record, which was self-titled and shared back in 1999.

At time of writing, the band have yet to share any preview of new music from the forthcoming album, although a lead single is expected to be released ahead of the May release date.

Check out the album artwork and full tracklist below.

The American Football ‘(LP4)’ tracklist is:

1. ‘Man Overboard’
2. ‘No Feeling’
3. ‘Blood On My Blood’
4. ‘Bad Moons’
5. ‘The One with the Piano’
6. ‘Patron Saint of Pale’
7. ‘Wake Her Up’
8. ‘Desdemona’
9. ‘Lullabye’
10. ‘No Soul to Save’

The news of a new album comes following the band announcing tour dates in the UK, Europe and North America for 2026 earlier this month. The run of shows features two UK shows – held at Leeds’ O2 Academy (June 26) and London’s O2 Kentish Town Forum (27).

You’ll be able to buy tickets here (UK), here (North America) and here (Europe).

American Football toured last year to mark the 25th anniversary of their 1999 debut album, ‘LP1’, following some celebratory shows in 2024. The UK leg featured a date at the Roundhouse in Camden Town, London, and a slot at Manchester’s Outbreak Fest.

They also released a 25th anniversary reissue of their first record with covers by Ethel Cain, Blondshell and more.

Since they dropped ‘LP3’ in 2019, the band have also dropped a new original song called ‘Rare Symmetry’ in 2021, along with a cover of Mazzy Star’s classic track ‘Fade Into You’.

In 2024, the band spoke to NME, and frontman Mike Kinsella reflected on major younger artists like Hayley Williams and Matty Healy being fans of American Football.

“I mean, I don’t know if we’re like a nostalgia band. In my mind we’re not, ’cause I know how hard I’m working to write new stuff all the time and try new things,” he said. “But I’m not sure if people are coming to the shows because they’re like, ‘Oh, I used to love this band’, or if we’re a contemporary band that people still enjoy.”
