Boy George has urged Chappell Roan to “cheer up” and “own her fame” after her encounter with paparazzi earlier this week.

The Pink Pony Club singer hit headlines earlier this week when she took a stand against the paparazzi, fans and autograph hunters following her around Paris and filmed them on her phone while calling them out for disrespecting her boundaries.

In response, the Culture Club frontman took to X and urged Chappell to “cheer up” and give her fans a photo.

“It’s probably not helpful but I have been doing this fame thing for a while and you learn slowly and painfully that you don’t get a free pass once you turn yourself into a bird of paradise,” the Karma Chameleon singer wrote, noting that he has “kicked off” at paparazzi many times over the years himself.

“The trick is to own your fame. yes, it’s annoying at times but so is being ignored and told your (sic) a ‘has-been,'” he continued. “I think Chappell looks great but cheer up girl. The world is at your feet stop kicking it! It takes so much more time to say no to a picture or a signature. Boundaries are boring. Break them with the magic of kindness!”

Meanwhile, Stick Season singer Noah Kahan came to Chappell’s defence, calling on people to “leave her alone” via his Instagram Stories.

Of autograph hunters pretending to be fans, he added, “They’re scummy, they’re manipulative, they’re parasitic, and, yeah, f**k ’em.”

In the original clip, which was shared on social media by an onlooker, the Hot To Go! singer films herself while surrounded by paparazzi and fans by her car outside a restaurant in Paris.

She can be heard saying that she feels “disregarded as a human” because she has asked them “several times to get away from me”.

Since she shot to fame in 2024, Chappell, 28, has been very outspoken about her boundaries with fans if they spot her in public, insisting that they are not entitled to her time or a photo.
