Lil Nas X appears in court on battery charge

Lil Nas X appeared at a Los Angeles courthouse on Thursday for a hearing related to a battery of a peace officer charge, stemming from his 2025 arrest.

The rapper, known for hits such as Old Town Road and Montero (Call Me by Your Name), arrived at the courthouse alongside his lawyer, Christy O’Connor.

O’Connor asked the judge for a delay so she could file a motion seeking to transfer the Grammy winners felony police battery case into an unspecified diversion programme. Diversion programmes generally lead to charges being dismissed if defendants complete treatment or rehabilitation.

The legal case relates to an incident that occurred in August last year in Los Angeles. The rapper was arrested when officers responded to a situation in which he was reportedly behaving erratically.

According to law enforcement, Lil Nas X removed his clothing and lunged toward an officer during the encounter. He was later transported to a hospital for medical evaluation following concerns about a possible drug overdose.

Lil Nas X was charged with four felony counts related to the incident. The rapper has pleaded not guilty to the charges. After the arrest, he also entered an inpatient treatment facility.

If convicted, the performer could face a potential sentence of up to five years in state prison.
