The guitarist has been developing the multimedia project for over 20 years, initially envisioning it as a musical, before developing it to its current format with the help of director and writer Cameron Crowe.

McCready is set to tell a fictional tale of the life of a Seattle musician named David Williams, who navigates the city’s burgeoning music scene in the early 1990s. The “historical fantasy” is co-authored by McCready and comic writer Mark Sable and will be accompanied by a rock opera featuring original music written from the perspective of Williams.

As for the inspiration and plot, McCready described it as a story “inspired by the creativity, community and chaos of the Seattle music scene” (per Loudwire). “I’ve had a great time bringing this project to life with Z2 and I hope people enjoy the journey as much as I did creating it.”

The graphic novel, illustrated by Argentinian artist Sebastián Píriz is set for release on October 6, with deluxe and platinum editions including a soundtrack featuring new and original songs penned by McCready.

Rantz A Hoseley, Z2’s Editor in Chief, added of the project: “Having been in the heart of the NW music scene as a journalist in the 1990s, I’ve wanted for years to work on a project that would reflect what it was actually like for the musicians and the fans when ‘the world came to Seattle.’

“I can say, without any hyperbole or exaggeration, that I feel like my entire creative life has led to me being involved with this book, and I feel so blessed to be a part of bringing Mike’s beautiful and poignant story to the world.”

Pre-orders are available now through the Z2 website here, while physical copies will be available worldwide on October 6.

As for Pearl Jam, last year saw the band wrap up an extensive US tour in support of their latest album, ‘Dark Matter’. The record scored a four-star review from NME, with Liberty Dunworth writing: “For those longing for the charismatic songwriting that first put the band on the map over three decades ago, ‘Dark Matter’ will come as a pleasant surprise.”
